Grand View Lodge to host Red Cross blood drive – Area businesses asked to participate in Oct. 23 event

NISSWA — The American Red Cross is coming to Nisswa this month and asking all local businesses to consider partnering with Grand View Lodge, which is donating the space and canteen for the event.

The blood drive is planned noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Gull Lake Center at Grand View Lodge. Any businesses interested in blood donation should contact Sue Manders at susan.manders@grandviewlodge.com or at 218-963-8758. Participants are asked to contact Manders by Oct. 19, to ensure staffing support by the Red Cross.

In an effort to say thank you to all donors, Grand View Lodge is offering each donor an entry into a drawing to receive one of the following: two 18-hole rounds of golf for two at The Pines or The Preserve, two dinners for two at the Lodge Dining Room, two one-hour massages at Glacial Water Spa, or one overnight stay for four with breakfast.

Also, if a donor brings a friend, they’ll receive two entries into the drawing.

One pint can save three lives, according to the American Red Cross.

Summer Hydration

With the long days of sunshine and summer fun finally here, your skin might be in need of a little extra hydration! Grand View’s Glacial Waters Spa has just the nirvana treatment for you!

Our Glacial Waters Spa houses what is called a Vichy Shower, a system comprised of seven showerheads which runs parallel to a cushioned treatment table and showers the body, mimicking a true rainfall.

A treatment that typically follows a body scrub or wrap, the Vichy increases the benefits of products recently absorbed by your skin. Additionally, it reduces toxins and waste; improves your elimination system; stimulates the skin drawing blood to the surface, boosting your immune system; hydrates your body; improves skin and muscle tone and reduces your stress response through skin nerve stimulation.

The Vichy Shower’s origin comes from Vichy, a town in central France known for its natural mineral springs. Nowadays, the Vichy Shower is considered a true versatile treatment, allowing the massage therapist to adjust each head in temperature and pressure to better accommodate each guest’s specific needs.

We invite you to experience the Glacial Waters Spa Vichy services and rehydrate your dry, summer skin. All treatments include a 30 minute Vichy Shower, in addition to a massage or scrub, such as the Grand Renewal or Calming Waters.  However, the Signature Glacial Rain is the ultimate hydration service, which includes a massage, Vichy Shower, and Shirodhara, a steady stream of warmed oil flowing onto your third eye.

Come experience the rejuvenating effects of water today! Now through July 31st, try any Vichy service for 20% off . (Just mention this article to receive this offer! Not valid with other offers.)

Step into Spring at Glacial Waters Spa!

Ashiatsu, an ancient practice performed by Buddhist monks which involves a massage therapist literally walking on your back is now available at Glacial Waters Spa.  Meaning “foot” (ashi) “pressure” (atsu), Ashiatsu combines the elements of Thai massage and barefoot Shiatsu from Japan and Southern India that have been used for more than 3,000 years.

The traditional Ashiatsu Massage-Oriental Bar Therapy was developed by massage therapist, Ruthie Piper Hardee in 1995 as a result of her own scoliosis and disk pain associated with bending over the table to deliver deep tissue massage. “With regular massage, the No. 1 complaint is that the therapist didn’t go deep enough,” Hardee says. “People are yearning for deep tissue work,” and Ashiatsu does just that in allowing the therapist to stand straight up, utilizing their center of gravity to work the lumbar and the erectors.

The Western spin on barefoot massage is known to improve posture, relieve pain and stress, treat spinal problems, and provide an incredibly deep massage, all while still being gentle.

In 2009, there were only eight Minnesotan massage therapists trained to perform Ashiatsu, including Glacial Waters Spa’s Sarah Forsland. “We have seen an increase in popularity since its introduction and can imagine that it will only continue to grow once customers receive the treatment and realize how healing it can be,” said Forsland.  Offering the therapy since July of last year, Glacial Waters is one of the only spas north of St. Cloud who can perform this unique form of massage practice.
