Grand View Signature Wine Now Available at Liquor Boy

Grand View Lodge and the owner of Liquor Boy, John Wolf, announced today that Liquor Boy will be the exclusive Twin Cities retail sales outlet for Grand View Lodge’s signature private label wines starting Thursday, December 27th, 2012.

To celebrate this arrangement, there will a complimentary tasting conducted by Grand View staff on Thursday, December 27, from 4:00p.m.-7:00p.m., plus a chance to win a trip for 2 to Grand View Lodge’s new winter wine & culinary weekend – de’Vine – this January. Customers can register at Liquor Boy starting December 27th, 2012 thru January 12th, 2013. The drawing will take place on Monday, January 14th.

In 2012, Grand View Lodge introduced its signature wines, a Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cote family, 4th generation owners of Grand View Lodge, partnered with the Scotto Family, 5th generation California winemakers, to blend a unique wine exclusively for the Nisswa property. The wines, also featuring a label designed by Nisswa artist Jerry Raedeke, were created to enhance the Grand View experience that until now had only been available only at the Resort.

Based on continued guest requests, Grand View is pleased to make the signature wines available for retail purchase in the Twin Cities exclusively at Liquor Boy.  Liquor Boy opened in November 2012 and is located at 5620 Cedar Lake Rd, St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

Fall Into Wellness

Throughout the month of September, we are paying tribute to fall colors, relaxation and wellness. The tribute comes in an effort to expand the 2011 established Grand View Wellness Program and integrate its foundational practices into our other venues.

For those looking for a new twist to their ordinary workout routine should look forward to several new Grand View Wellness Program Activities. Biking the Cuyuna Mountain Bike Trail System, morning sessions of Hot Power Yoga, Guided Nature Hikes and the exciting dance of Salsa are all new additions this fall. All wellness activities offered are designed to fit and tailor to any age, level of experience and actual physical fitness ability. Most activities are complimentary to guests, with only a select few, Horseback Riding, Mountain Biking at Cuyuna or Paddleboard Yoga, that carry an additional charge.

Food and nutrition is also a huge aspect in achieving overall wellness. Our guests requested it and now it’s finally here – a wellness menu! This fall will be the first of what is hoped to be several menus that provide lighter fare food options for both our health conscious guests and/or those looking for a lighter meal. The wellness menu will feature Appetizers and entrees such as Vegetable Flatbread, Vegetarian Black Bean Chili, Turkey Scaloppini and Pan-Seared Salmon. It will be available at the Lodge Dining Room and Northwoods Pub, with Cru working on a Spa-inspired menu.

As most people know, exercise and proper nutrition are beneficial to your overall well-being, but what many people tend to forget about is the importance of spa therapies; Massages, facials and even nail services all provide hostilic health benefits. This September, Glacial Waters Spa will be offering several wellness classes including Spa Reflexology, Skin Care Basics and Skin Analysis and Spa Stress Relief. They hope these classes will provide you with new information and techniques that can be used to increase your overall  wellness.  All classes are complimentary and run one hour, starting at 3:30p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Wellness seems to also be influenced by the seasons.  As fall colors fluctuate across the state, our central location allows our fall enthusiasts an extended opportunity to see color change both subtle and drastic.  So whether you’re looking for an afternoon drive around Gull Lake or need something more adventurous, we have the routes and activities you need to take in all the colors of fall and continue down your path to wellness.

In the end, whatever you decide you want to do this fall to achieve wellness is up to you. So if it means sitting on the deck, relaxing, holding a beverage in hand, that’s ok too! It’s your vacation – and let wellness come to you.

Fall Vines and Wine

Fall is the time for seasons to change and harvest to begin. The wine harvest season is always a time for family and community to come together and enjoy the fruits of their labor. And it’s this moment, which we are trying to capture with two amazing months of flavors, colors and bouquets highlighting Italy and Napa Valley.

This September we teamed up with The Wine Company to feature some fabulous Italian wines that will allow wine lovers to enjoy the depth and complexity of some of our favorite wines of Italy. Each Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, wine tastings will introduce patrons to new and unusual varietals and regions from the boot of Europe.

The highlight of the month will be on Friday, September 21st as Executive Chef Michael Manders pairs unique culinary creations like Grilled Branzino and Osso Bucco Milanese with the exceptional featured Italian wines. The Wine Company’s Julie Bollig will be our guest speaker, sharing her knowledge of Italian wine and highlights of her recent trip to Italy.

October’s focus of the Friday and Saturday tastings will be on full-bodied reds and hearty whites which compliment the changing leaves and season.  The featured wines include the Joseph Phelps’ Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Fogdog Chardonnay, Freestone Pinot Noir, and Eisriebe.

The highlight of the month will be the Joseph Phelps Wine Dinner in Cru Saturday, October 27th.  Joseph Phelps is one of the premier Napa Valley vineyards and has been producing amazing wines for nearly 40 years. These top shelf wines will be paired with an amazing culinary preparation by our own Executive Chef Michael Manders and Chef de Cuisine Paul Fitzpatrick. A representative of Joseph Phelps will be the guest speaker, sharing her knowledge of this unique vineyard and the wines it produces.  This is an event not to miss!

The 2012 Annual Fish and Golf Tournament Date is Set

We are inviting teams of three to participate in the 2012 Fish and Golf Tournament, featuring a day of fishing on Saturday, Sept. 29, and a day of golf, Sunday, Sept. 30.

Last year’s tournament featured some great fishing and fantastic weather for golf.

“We are very lucky to have championship golf and world class fishing all within a couple miles of each other. It makes Grand View Lodge an absolute perfect location to host a fish and golf event,” said Jack Wawro, head golf professional at Grand View Lodge. “Our unique tournament allows our guests to enjoy both premier golf as well as reconnect with nature while on the surrounding lakes, and it’s a lot of fun!”

Saturday will be dedicated to fishing and trying to out-catch your fellow fishermen on the Gull Lake chain, one of the top 10 Walleye lakes in the state. Fishing will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at which time there will be a weigh-in. The winner will be determined by the weight of two Bass, two Northern and two Walleye. Points will carry over to the golf event the following day. There will be a dinner announcing the fishing results following the contest at the Main Lodge Dining Room.

Sunday will feature a golf tournament, beginning with a shotgun start on the Pines course. The three person teams will participate and winners will be determined after combining the two net scores of the three players. The points earned will be combined with the fishing event, and the overall winners will be announced over a lunch at Freddy’s Grille at the Pines course.

The cost of the tournament is $100 per each member, or $150 for non-members and includes entry and participation in each event, several meals, a cart and gift-card prizes throughout the weekend. Lodging is available for each three-person team for $150 plus tax. Teams must provide their own boat or hire a fishing guide for the first day of the event. Professional golfers and fisherman are welcome.

For more information or to register for the event, please contact Jack Wawro at (218) 963-8741 or email him at jack.wawro@grandviewlodge.com. To keep up with Grand View Lodge’s latest news, events and special promotions please visit the Pines on Facebook and become a fan.  For additional resort information and to find out about vacation packages visit www.grandviewlodge.com.

Gull Lake is in the Top 10 Walleye Lakes listing and promises great fishing throughout the tournament.
