The Pines is Blooming with New Golf Carts and GPS System

The Pines is Blooming with New Golf Carts and GPS System Grand View Lodge may be known as the most rewarded golf resort in Minnesota, but now they will also be known as one of the leaders in golf technology.

Every new golf season produces course and technology updates, but the 2014 year at the Pines Golf Course boasts of 104 new Club Car Precedent i2s and Visage GPS System. The new Club Cars have plenty of upgraded features and the latest in drive train technology. Rain club covers, waterproof storage areas and a trendy white body with light gray seating will take the fairways in full swing.

Grand View Lodge may be known as the most rewarded golf resort in Minnesota, but now they will also be known as one of the leaders in golf technology. With this new GPS system in place, the Pines is focusing on being the best “pace of play” resort courses in the state!  This system allows both the pro shop and the customer the ability to see the pace of play.  This combined with our friendly player assistant staff will allow the Pines’ pace of play to be excellent even on the busiest of days.

The Visage GPS System is also what a golfer could consider his own personal concierge service and caddy. The touch screen technology provides yardages to front, pin and back of green and to any point you touch on hole. It also tracks distances of the tee ball hit, flyover at tee box and pace of play. Golfers can also order food and beverages on every hole and enjoy an electronic scorecard that can be instantly emailed at the end of the round.

The Pines is Blooming with New Golf Carts and GPS SystemIf you haven’t played the Pines in a couple years this year would be the time to do it.  The Lakes & Woods course updates were very well received. The tee box renovations and Lakes #7 green are maturing nicely and the golf course conditions will truly be at their peak this season. Grand View Lodge is making sure that the Pines meets all your expectations as one of the best golf experiences in the state.

The Woods – Reclaimed!

After celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening on the Pines in 2010, renovation plans were laid for the golf course. From 2011 through 2012, a transformation took place at The Pines—starting with the Lakes 9— reconstructed tee boxes on all nine holes, scenic rock walls, added yardage and major enhancements to the property’s signature hole, Lakes 7.  In the fall of 2012 the Woods underwent a similar renovation and had impressive results.

The first major change was the reconstruction of all main tee boxes and leveling of all the other tees. All the cart paths have been resurfaced for a smoother ride through the course. The removal of several trees has opened up sightlines and allows for better sunlight and air movement around the tees. This spring, the pond on #3 will be expanded and the team will be leveling the rough on a number of holes, as well.

“Players will definitely notice the much larger main tees, particularly on the par threes. By removing a number of trees and opening them up to sunlight, the larger tees will give us the ability to maintain a better teeing surface,” said Mike Bohnenstingl, Director of Golf Maintenance. “The tees have been squared off and re-aligned to the fairways, as well.  The pond on #3 is being enlarged to bring it more into view from the tee, and offer players a more scenic challenge to that hole.”

Golfers ready to challenge The Woods will have to wait till Memorial Day weekend, which is the projected completion date if everything goes as planned. “We are always about the experience at Grand View and we want to make sure that the course is ready to be fully played at its best potential when opened,” said Bohnenstingl.

Grand Opening of The Woods will take place during the 22nd Annual Fred-Mark Charity Invitational, taking place Monday, May 27th through Tuesday, May 28th at the property’s championship courses, The Pines and The Preserve.  Proceeds from this event will benefit Bridges of Hope, a faith-based nonprofit organization, which links families to community supports and resources. The two-day tournament will feature putting contests, tee prizes, and a silent and live auction with some great items including sporting event tickets, resort stays, memorabilia and leisure packages.

The 2012 Annual Fish and Golf Tournament Date is Set

We are inviting teams of three to participate in the 2012 Fish and Golf Tournament, featuring a day of fishing on Saturday, Sept. 29, and a day of golf, Sunday, Sept. 30.

Last year’s tournament featured some great fishing and fantastic weather for golf.

“We are very lucky to have championship golf and world class fishing all within a couple miles of each other. It makes Grand View Lodge an absolute perfect location to host a fish and golf event,” said Jack Wawro, head golf professional at Grand View Lodge. “Our unique tournament allows our guests to enjoy both premier golf as well as reconnect with nature while on the surrounding lakes, and it’s a lot of fun!”

Saturday will be dedicated to fishing and trying to out-catch your fellow fishermen on the Gull Lake chain, one of the top 10 Walleye lakes in the state. Fishing will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at which time there will be a weigh-in. The winner will be determined by the weight of two Bass, two Northern and two Walleye. Points will carry over to the golf event the following day. There will be a dinner announcing the fishing results following the contest at the Main Lodge Dining Room.

Sunday will feature a golf tournament, beginning with a shotgun start on the Pines course. The three person teams will participate and winners will be determined after combining the two net scores of the three players. The points earned will be combined with the fishing event, and the overall winners will be announced over a lunch at Freddy’s Grille at the Pines course.

The cost of the tournament is $100 per each member, or $150 for non-members and includes entry and participation in each event, several meals, a cart and gift-card prizes throughout the weekend. Lodging is available for each three-person team for $150 plus tax. Teams must provide their own boat or hire a fishing guide for the first day of the event. Professional golfers and fisherman are welcome.
